Gravitational waves carry information about the universe that can be gathered in no other way, say proponents. Others fear these latest 'big science' projects, costing hundreds of millions, will starve other worthy, much less expensive, projects. Nevertheless, LIGO Hanford Observatory and LIGO Livingston Observatory are online and trying to extract a single from our amazingly noisy universe. Bloggin': try Talking Points Memo (DC insider stuff), librarian.net (yes, the librarian subculture!), Daily Dish from go-figure conservative writer Andrew Sullivan, LoobyLu (life and times of an Australian graphic artist, in words and pix) and, of course, Scripting News, Dave Winer's ongoing journal of code, technology and being Dave. Inspired by an article in the latest Wired... but how many have been publishing since 1995?...

Windows, again: 2 weeks ago I wrote how Windows 2000 killed my Linux machine when I attempted to install it on a 2nd HD. Today I noticed, when I plugged in a USB device, that Win2K didn't install USB support... and there's not a clue in MS help anywhere on how that could have happened, or what to do about it. Any Win2K hackers who can advise, please do!

NASA TV is providing a live feed from STS 110.. been listening in the background as I work this morning. Commander Mike Bloomfield and Mission Specialist Ellen Ochoa have been doing all the talking so far. Will certainly be tuning in for Lee Morin's spacewalk.
