Record inflation: prices in Germany rose by a factor of 726 billion between July of 1914 and November of 1923. A period of hyperinflation occured from July of 1922 (index of 100.6) and November 1923 (index of 726 billion). 150 printing companies ran 2000 presses 24 hours a day to try to print enough money, but inflation outstripped the ability to print money quickly enough. One German note of the era was for 100 billion marks. From Stephen Hawking's Universe in a Nutshell.
