Port lockout taking toll on thousands of idled truckers (AP) -- Unable to move any cargo for days, thousands of independent truckers are waiting around at transfer stations and hoping their money lasts longer than the... Why Unions, my poor, lucky-to-be-born, former-Union birthright, bug the hell out of me now... protect 200, screw millions... what are you guys thinking?

Dan Gillmor: Apple stands firm against entertainment cartel. It's shaping up that only *NIX-based OSes, - Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD will allow users, not corporate cartels and governments, to control free speech and the free flow of ideas.Intel and Microsoft call their draconian DRM 'innovation', which is a lot like Big Brother's 'War is Peace'. Paladium is the end of innovation by a free and informed public, anyway.

The nation's ports are closed because of a dispute over 200 clerical jobs, according to the New York Times. The clerks, who make $120,000 a year, might lose their jobs if new technologies are put in. As usual it's complicated, but when are Unions going to find ways to deal with the 21st Century?

Red Hat 8.0 Released [Slashdot] Easier install, more consistent interface, from what I read... I note that an upgrade of the pro version costs more than OS X Jaguar...
