Full disclosure: the University of Texas private equity investment arm, after an opinion by the Texas Attorney General, spills the beans on its venture capital investments. VC funds normally require that their rates of return, which, admittedly, don't comply to normal investments over the short term, be kept secret. This is painful for all concerned, but good in the long term.. VC is too important to the US economy not to be handled in an efficient, accountable manner... venture capital will always be the domain of risk-takers... but it doesn't have to be kept in the dark. It is what it is... let's all step up and say it like it is...

NYT: Big Investors Push for More Disclosure From Venture Firms
Stung by accounting scandals, institutional investors in several states are pushing for greater transparency and disclosure not just from public companies, but from private equity and venture capital firms, which have long operated outside the public eye.
Venture capital is undergoing a sea change from the era of colorful swashbucklers to a more corporate style... hopefully the result will be better access to capital by deserving entrepreneurs, and fewer excesses...

Planet Quaoar is a Kuiper Belt object that orbits some 4 billion miles from Earth. It's 800 miles in diameter - it could sit comfortably in the Western half of the United States. Caltech scientists named it after the creator god of a tribe that once inhabited the Los Angeles basin. NYT story has the details (including how it was unknowingly photographed in 1982). Impressive: discovering something 4 billion miles away...
