On the road: we'll be travelling for the next 10 days... updating if the net gods allow.. we'll be in some rural locales... Fingers crossed for Earthlink's more esoteric access numbers.

Even more wireless benefits: now when I'm using the PowerBook at home, I can finally run Entourage and Word at the same time. MS Office X stupidly won't allow any Office app to run anywhere else on my network. But the AirPort has it's own DHCP server, and sets up a separate sub-net. I can finally do work email on my laptop while writing in Word on the desktop machine... like I used to do with the old Office...

Really wireless: so, this afternoon I went to the Apple Store in Palo Alto and picked up a D-Link Bluetooth adapter. I plugged it into my G4 Mac's USB hub, then turned on the Bluetooth 'discoverable' feature on the new Sony Ericsson T68i phone. After a few minutes fussing with device pairs and passwords, I sync'd the phone to the address book on the Mac using the iSync beta. It's like having a PDA in a tiny phone. It picked up my iCal calendar, too... I'm going to get spoiled by this digital hub stuff...

Back to the Wireless future I bought the original Apple Airport: we've been WiFi-ing at gulker.com for years (check out Dotcom Garden's wireless Web cam). We were until I switched to Mac OS X that is: normally reliable Mac network vendor Farallon opted not to make an OS X driver for the SkyLine wirless card I'd bought for my G3 PowerBook (Boo, hiss, Farallon). So no WiFi on OS X, and booting back into OS 9 was just no fun. So we've been off wireless, until MacSense begin offering an AeroCard, with OS X driver, for $79 at Mac-friendly DevDepot. Yay! It is so liberating to be back on wireless.. laptop Web surfing in bed... and I can go to coffee shops that have WiFi...

Doc Searles at Digital ID World: Denise Howell (whose blogging rocks) catches the gist of Brent Glass' closing remarks from the audience:
I don't want any organization having control of my identity. I don't trust enterprises. I don't trust the government. I want to be the center of my identity. One of the things open source has going for it is it puts the user at the center. Could the panel explain if it can do this for us? Can it give humans control that need not be relinquished?

That lays out the ground for Doc's Identity Infrastructure talk tomorrow.
