Kitchen party, Saturday night: I cooked a half-dozen dishes while guests sipped wine (2 Burgundies). The hit dish was a slow-cooked cassoulet, a recipe and technique I got from NYT food writer Mark Bittman.
Bittman likes the lowly slow-cooker ('crock pot'). Mine cost $19 at Target. It is almost the cheapest thing in the new kitchen.
