Where has my country gone? The New York Times has a front page story on what types of torture and coercion administration officials believe are best in the case of terrorists. Our government now conducts secret trials and arbitrarily deprives some of their basic rights.

Some say it's naive not to believe that you have to use the methods of 'the enemy'. I believe that it's worse than naive to think that you can improve human rights through torture, or foster democracy by depriving people of their rights, or secure peace through war. It shows how fragile this democracy is, and how easily we can lose it... just a couple of hanging chads...

GNOME's Jeff Waugh corrects and amplifies my post about the Workspot desktop: "Red Hat, with 8.0 and above, call the appearance (or theme) of their desktop "BlueCurve", but it's still GNOME - it's just based on our 2.0 release. Just mailing so you know that it's still us, and we're always improving! :-)". Consider me corrected and enlightened...
