John Robb: "Here is a fear that I have been dreading for a while: the US has become Israel. We needed a target for our rightous indignation and thirst for revenge re: 9/11. The long slow process of terrorist hunting wasn't enough to satisfy this need. We didn't have Palestinians to beat up on so we manufactured them in Iraq. And like Israel, the majority of people - moderates - are being held hostage by the extreme policies of the right wing. Generations of Israelis and Palestinians will pay for hatred engendered by Sharon's policies: ditto for the Bush administration and Americans, I think...

Another media misstep: The Los Angeles Times has dismissed staff photographer Brian Walski for combining 2 photos taken moments apart to make a more dramatic photo. This is a major no-no in press photo circles... the combined shot does tell the story more dramatically, but you don't fiddle a photo and present it as if it was real... Editors have to be able to trust writers and photographers... I'm still trying to spot the duplicated civilians...
