The Media State: supercomputer simulations by Rob Stocker, an Australian PhD candidate "confirm the worst fears of those opposed to increased concentration of media into a few powerful hands, Stocker says. He simulated a single media outlet ("node") with a high level of influence over 100 simulated citizens ("sims"). The sims could interact among themselves but found themselves increasingly falling into line behind the central media outlet.
"As time spent connected to the media increased, there was rapid conversion to the media state," Stocker says. Oohhh... Clear Channel Nation? MSNBC Planet?
