Cool, Keith has a weblog... Blog on...

Keith Teare's Santa Cruz Networks was handing out starter kits for their video cum audio cum IM cum app-sharing Viditel collaboration app at the AlwaysOn innovation conference. There's a Logitech QuickCam, microphone/headset and a CD. Cool!

So, I'm waiting for the Linux or Mac OS X version, Keith! You see, there's no Windows computers around here. Darn! And the kit came with 3 months free service...! I coulda, maybe, talked Dave, in Boston, or Doc, in Santa Barbara, or, better Xeni, in L.A. into signing up, too!

But, damn, no Windows... but I did think of something to do with your QuickCam while I'm waiting for the OS X/Linux port... you see we have this Owi Robotic Trainer arm sitting on the book shelf... and if we hand it your cam, we get a cool view of gulker.com's World HQ... Hurry with that OS X port, OK?

Entourage restored: while organizing my Docs folder, I managed to move the MS User Data folder in a list of about a hundred things, into a 2003 folder, thus prompting Entourage to start life new (Doh!). I am really liking the spam filters in Mail, though. I tried SpamFire with Entourage, but it's tedious checking 2 apps, just to be sure nothing important is inadvertently deleted as spam...

We're up and running on Apple's Mail, at least until how I can figure out what to do about dead Entourage. Roger and Pete use Mail and like it. Roger likes that you can access your address book remotely, via .Mac, while Pete likes that Mail uses the mbox format..

A Microsoft 'good morning': last night, when I turned in, my copy of MS Entourage had some 15,000 messages, 2 or 3 hundred contacts, folders with names like 'urgent' and 'response needed'. This morning, as you can see above, they're all gone. I have a fresh new start on life, I guess... anyone know how we get past this 'feature'...? Also, how is Apple Mail these days? I understand it has good anti-spam filters...

Thank you, Comments 'beta testers': Nolan feels my pain, and I note he has a new book, Visual Quick Start for Adobe's nifty Photoshop Album; Gavin and Philipp say 'move to MT' (not likely guys, as nice as MT is); and Andy over at deadjournal.com says my RSS feeds are screwing up (dunno if that's from reattaching Radio, which generates this blog, to a different Manilla comments server or not.

Anyway, after I figured out how to get Manilla's Web server to behave and stay on its own port, I found a mysterious firewall glitch that was blocking that port. Fixed now... so, in theory comments will now be served from the local Manilla server rather than UserLand's... and comments that were posted to this page while connected to UserLand are gone (but archived pages' comments persist)...
