My copy of Star Office came today. I am seriously wondering if I will ever buy an Office upgrade again. The same installer works on Linux and Windows XP, but not, alas, on Mac OS X, but I think I can grab OpenOffice.org for that machine.

If I was trying to run multiple copies of Word, it would be one thing, but separate apps? That's just stupid IMHO.

Having spent $400 for Office for Mac, it bridles me to have to spend the same for a license for the XP machine. A technology writer has to use different OSes from time to time to review products, write guides et al. and it's pretty obvious that I won't be running Word on 2 machines at once.

Anyway Star Office is a lot cheaper, and is amazingly compatible with Word .doc files, and it runs on 2 out of 3 OSes that I'm running. Yay...
