My copy of Star Office came today. I am seriously wondering if I will ever buy an Office upgrade again. The same installer works on Linux and Windows XP, but not, alas, on Mac OS X, but I think I can grab OpenOffice.org for that machine.
One of the things that absolutely kills me about MS Office is the license. When my PowerBook is on the LAN, Office won't let me run Entourage (basic Outlook for Mac) on one machine and Word on another. If I was trying to run multiple copies of Word, it would be one thing, but separate apps? That's just stupid IMHO.
Having spent $400 for Office for Mac, it bridles me to have to spend the same for a license for the XP machine. A technology writer has to use different OSes from time to time to review products, write guides et al. and it's pretty obvious that I won't be running Word on 2 machines at once.
Anyway Star Office is a lot cheaper, and is amazingly compatible with Word .doc files, and it runs on 2 out of 3 OSes that I'm running. Yay...
