Valentine's dinner, cooked by yours truly, consisted of Pot-au-Feu, the old-fashioned French farmer's boiled dinner, as updated by Cook's Illustrated. Basically, it's 3 cuts of cheap beef simmered for 3 1/2 hours and then topped with vegetables boiled al dente. The meat broth had a wonderful flavor - Linda, friends Barb (pictured), Mike and Cathy said that this may have been the best concoction since I took up spoon and pot as an amateur chef a little over a year ago. Many thanks to Ms. Julie Brown for the Christmas present subscription to Cook's Illustrated... have had 2 winning dishes from just the first issue...
