Lenten mission: last year I spent the Lenten season researching and attempting to communicate with people on the religious right. I happen to be a practicing Episcopalian, though not the sort who normally believes in wearing my faith on my sleeve, and was very curious about fellow Christians and their communities and beliefs.

While a few readers offered helpful comments (thank you), none of the people whom I attempted to contact, in a spirit of understanding, responded. Folks are either very busy on that side of the faith spectrum, or else they just aren't interested in people who don't see things the way they do.

So this Lent, I am going to a class offered by rector Rob Ross at Holy Trinity Church here in Menlo Park (Linda and I are members there). We are studying Jack Wallis' book God's Politics (Why the Right Gets It Wrong, and the Left Doesn't Get It). The first 2 classes have led to some lively discussion... I think I feel an essay coming on...

American Library Association president Michael Gorman: "Given the quality of the writing in the blogs I have seen, I doubt that many of the Blog People are in the habit of sustained reading of complex texts. It is entirely possible that their intellectual needs are met by an accumulation of random facts and paragraphs." Just curious... would the phrase "an accumulation of random facts and paragraphs" also describe a library?
