Tiger printing bug fix: my Epson 1270 wouldn't print - the printer utility opens and everything (including logging) appeared normal, but the printer didn't so much as blink or buzz much less print. The fix finally came from an Apple knowledgebase article "Mac OS X 10.4: About the Reset Printing System feature." Says it's a last resort... and you do have to reselect printers afterwards... but now we can print...

Googlezon, the information and logistics conglomerate, will finally beat Microsoft in 2014 by launching EPIC - Evolving Personalized Information Construct - according to this 'mockumentary' by journalists Robin Sloan and Matt Thompson. The 14-minute clip from the future, produced by the 'Museum of Media History of the Federal District of Tampa Bay', describes the future melding of computer-generated news, social network constructs and targeted advertising as 'narrow, shallow, sensational and lacking in journalistic ethics.' Uh, you guys have noted recent newspaper circulation and TV viewer numbers, yes? Some would say this is an opportunity...

NetNewsWire 2.0 runs fine on Tiger. Brent Simmons left me a note to that effect, and I upgraded to 2.0 and Mars Edit 1.0 (the editor is now standalone). Posting this comment with Mars Edit... very nice...

More Tiger bugs: printing is broken (Epson 1270) and Excel quit on my wife, losing her data. Roger writes that the upgrade install overwrote his httpd.config file, meaning he has to redo all of his Apache configurations (painful), Postfix isn't working, MySQL required under-the-hood hacking to get going and he can't type the pound sterling character on his UK keyboard and Tiger setup. Let's hope 14.1 is in the works and available soon...
