Another dotcom disaster: or at least a Dotcom Garden disaster - I spent the afternoon getting 4 of Dotcom Garden's planters ready for planting. I'm late this year, in part because of late rains, in part because I've just been too busy on weekends.
The hard part about prepping the planters is the annual digging-out of the tree roots that grow up from under the planters. Nearby trees, attracted by the steady moisture and nutrients, put a dense mat of roots in the bottom of the planters, which is best chopped out before planting the new crop.
This year, 2 of the now 15-year-old planting boxes literally came apart at the seams under pressure from the vigorous root digging. Fortunately, Linda's dad had left me a handful of very long zinc-coated nails in one of the boxes that came our way when he moved out of his house, that turned out to be just the thing to make the repair, for this year, anyway. Maybe next year, we need to re-do Dotcom Garden... interesting project...
