Modern times: I had meetings with colleagues in India and Japan today. We all share a common WAN and calendar program and video-equipped conference rooms, so I was booked into a 7 AM with my Indian counterparts, and a 7 PM with Tokyo colleagues - 7 being the magic, best-compromise hour for meetings when the participants are on the order of 12 hours apart.
So, a 13 hour day for me, and very likely the same for the gang on the other side of the international date line. It did save some of us from a long plane ride (and the company and shareholders from paying for the travel), and I'm getting used to video interactions - it's very different from being face to face, and not necessarily all bad (more on this in a future post). Welcome to the 21st century global village...
