Busy, busy: some random notes: Stepson John's wedding looms. Work roars along. Sometimes, blogging takes a back seat... we're laying out the wedding program, cooking BBQ for a team-building exercise at work, and figuring out logistics for stepson's bachelor party at Donner this weekend (yup, he invited the old man - we're honored - but trying to figure out what to bring/cook).
Meantime we're trying to learn about Mac OS X server's Open Directory - non trivial, it would seem. The cool thing is that you can sit down at any OS X computer on a LAN and all your stuff just appears - kind of like the Sun's 'Network is the Computer' vision.
Garden continues to thrive in the weird weather that has hit the Peninsula: we go from cool and foggy to very hot - often in the space of a few hours. Sure looks like the predictions one reads for global warming: it's not that things get warmer, per se, it's that injecting energy into a system makes it less predictable - you see wilder swings. That describes the summer of 2005 hereabouts.
The 2006 Ford Escape Hybird is pushing 700 miles (so far on 2 tanks of gas) and runs like a champ: I'm really happy about this replacement of a 15-mile-a-gallon Land Rover with a 27+-mile-a-gallon Ford. Note to Ford: if you have a 50 MPG model in the works, sign me up. BTW, I'm driving stepson and 2 buddies up to Donner/Tahoe in the Ford. First 'big trip' in the Hybrid. John's godfather is going up in a Hummer: this should be interesting...
