Been playing with iWeb, Apple's newish web page layout program. The good news is that you can grab a template and just type some words, drag in media like photos, mp3s and movie clips, click a button, and voila, instant web site. The templates include blog pages, podcasts, home pages and even a blank basic page.

The bad news is, like many apps that strive for ease of use, it makes a lot of granular things, like creating a hyperlink, relatively hard to do. There's no HTML mode, so it's hard to do things like cut and paste a list of hyperlinked text from an existing page - you can copy the text items over, but you have to re-link them by hand, using a 'properties'-like dialog (very Window-ish and most un-Mac-like).

In many ways, I think I like Google's Page Creator better. iWeb's relatively small set of included page templates are rather nicer and more sophisticated in design (and can be modified relatively easily), but Google's AJAX app is impressive, the more so because it runs in the browser (Firefox, not Safari). It also has an HTML mode.

Page Creator is less fussy and a bit easier to figure out: iWeb is a bit more capable, but harder to parse - and not everything behaves consistently (you change some objects' background colors via the color inspector but others require using a menu item that also copies potentially unwanted text styles along with the color). I think 'keep it simple' trumps. And having it available anywhere I can get to a browser is an interesting proposition...
