The half-terabyte array is now up and nearly fully functional. I'm experimenting with using DHCP-assigned dynamic IP addresses at the moment. One annoying thing about Mac OS X is that automounting shares is not easy, at least not as easy as it was under OS 9 et al. (I may have to look into Automator to mount the array for backups).
I also note that Apple's Backup utility makes very large incremental backups - on the order of 1-2 GB - which chews up even 500GB pretty quickly when you're backing 4 or 5 machines and/or accounts. Need to look into that (I'm thinking my Apple Mail's very large DB may be the culprit, if the whole thing is added every day). Happily hacking away at the Core...
