WordPress is emerging as a candidate for gulker.com's new blogging software. It's open source, flexible and capable as far as I can tell. There are lots of templates and, better, lotsa developers working on same. It's also supported by our hosting service, Server Logistics. It would be a departure for us, since we've always gone down the 'flat html' path: WordPress serves everything dynamically from a MySQL database via PHP. A new solution has been way too long coming... we're still looking at Movable Type et al., but the open source call is strong...
