After a week on the road, there was lots awaiting me in the inbox, voice mail et al. upon return to work. Today was full, if I may make that point. I’m hoping to veg a bit this PM, so we’ll turn our full attention to the gulker.com LAN project.
Which subject has its own complications. Getting back to the stalled Mini RAM upgrade, after extensive testing at the request of Other World Computing tech support, we discovered that one of our DIMMs is bad, and one works, regardless of which slot we plug them into in the Mac Mini. Bad DIMM is going back in the AM, new DIMM is on the way. Yay.
However, we have moved DNS to the other Mini, and DNS performance for off-LAN sites when a client is pointed to internal DNS is achingly slow, much faster when clients are pointed to our gateway and ISP’s DNS. So, I don’t think DNS Enabler solved the forwarding problem. More digging needed, in particular, it would be great to find a DNS utility more useful than nslookup or dig so we could analyze the behavior of our DNS…
