These roses were ‘purloined’ from our church’s Memorial Garden by friend Lisa’s mom: they came over to our house in a pretty basket that also contained a wonderful dinner. They look like an Irving Penn study: their color and fragrance has brightened this house since I came home from the hospital. Lisa’s mom was taken to task by a fellow Trinity parishioner for cutting the roses: I hope she’ll understand the cheer they’ve brought to this house.
And this bouquet is hardly without company: arrangements from Frannie, our friend the priest, our cousin Leah in Los Angeles, Barb, one of Linda’s oldest friends, a big arrangement from the Acrobat Team at Adobe, fresh flowers from fellow Trinity parishioner Rhonda… and I’m probably forgetting some. Frannie also put 9 candles on the walk to the back gate, the night Linda came home alone from Moffitt Hospital at UCSF, just to let her know she was in the hearts and prayers of good friends.
And I have’nt even begun to mention the dinners: Terye, Sara (twice), Liza, Rhonda, Rachael, Cathy (and who am I forgetting?)…. These aren’t just casseroles, either. Twice we’ve supped on Cassoulet, and there have been stews of the sort that a chef, not a cook turns out. There have been inventive salads, fruit salads, cakes and marvelous cookies and bottles of very good wine (I’m going to need recipes for many of these dishes, once I get back into the chef’s apron). The quantities are such that we’ve often had lunch and dinner solved by a single, wonderful delivery. Thank you, everyone… can’t tell you how much we appreciate these gifts…
