The labor in 21st century essay advanced a bit today on the train up to the city. Still needs a lot of work. I also finished, for time being, researching the faith essay (I finished Wired’s recent article on faith and the new atheism). I’m also rewatching films about faith, mostly Sci Fi: Contact, Titan A.E. and Final Fantasy are three. I need to be a bit more disciplined about writing however. Radiation and chemo are scheduled: writing will now go on the sched, as well..

I was worried about the left side the other day: we seemed to be losing coordination a bit more rapidly than has been the case over the last few months. I discussed this with Dr. Larsen at UCSF: his guess, given the rapid nature of the event, was that the steroids I’d been given to guard against brain swelling had been ramped down a little too quickly, allowing the tumor, which has been beat up recently – biopsied and subject to radiation – to swell and put pressure on my motor area.
He recommended ‘pulsing’ the steroids – a quick ramp up, which we started yesterday. Turns out everybody responds to things like steroids differently: it takes a little work to get things just right. The good news is my left arm was better this morning. By afternoon, my wife said I was walking better. Some good news… treatment continues, both chemo and radiation…

Spotted at 4th and King while I waited for the N Judah. This roadside mendicant’s sign reads ‘Doggie needs new shoes.’ Got to love a sense of humor, come whatever, but, um, maybe we could work on getting doggie, and master, a new home?

The essay I promised on labor in the 21st century is delayed, apologies. My laptop, which I’d left on ’sleep’ all weekend, died on the second graf on the train. When I got home, some new effect of radiation and chemo knocked me down…
