The new LAN was ‘officially’ installed tonight, complete with new, more secure firewall and WiFi, a guest ’sandbox’ LAN and a few more new features. In testing, it has been, so far, quite stable and fast, though more work needs to be done (including bringing the half-terabyte array back online).
However, I note that, while we’ve been working on the electron side of things at World HQ, the bits side, aka the daily mounting drifts of paper, are approaching cruft-like proportions. No sooner do we whack down our LAN cruft, than another, perhaps more insidious form rears its head. After all, the whole point of the LAN has been the ‘paperless‘ ideal of easily findable documents with the attendant disappearance of boxes, bins and trays of unfindable paper.
I guess we can be excused while we were actually working to bring the new LAN et al. up. But now that it’s here, I guess it’s time for phase 2 of cruft remediation…
