The good news: a San Jose firm was able to repair our 53-year-old furnace, once they’d located a replacement blower motor. Yay! I met the repairmen here a little after 4:30 (thank you Caltrain 4:05 ‘baby bullet’ which pulled into Palo Alto at 4:26), where my dear accomplice was waiting, motor running to meet the repair crew. 90 minutes later, a whir, a whoosh and our suddenly much-more-modern-looking (at least the pipes and controls in front) furnace came back to life. Yay! The repair guys packed up, I paid a bill much smaller than I’d been previously been led to believe was possible. And all was well.
The bad news: 2 cycles of the thermostat later, nada. Once again, gas came on, but blower failed to kick in. A quick phone call to our repairman revealed he was already in South San Jose at 8 PM, and still working. He apologized profusely, and offered to be back by 10 AM. We still have the space heaters, the house is warm, so I agreed. Repairman thinks that he needs to tweak adjustments and all will be well. I can only hope…
