Semaphores is a public art display that tops Adobe’s Almaden Tower. A friend had asked me about it, and I, who never approach the Adobe complex from this direction, had never spotted it.
A call to Adobe’s building services resulted in an email explaining the project: the disks rotate periodically, and are keyed to airplanes that pass over on their way to SJC airport among other things.
I came this way after descending from the VTA 522 bus that brought me to work after a fatal accident in Mountain View shut down Caltrain (first time since I went back to work - just over a month of nearly flawless on-time service), stranding me at the San Antonio station. I was exactly 1 hour behind normal schedule, and fortunately had no meetings scheduled early.
VTA 522, an expess, stopped at the Santa Clara transportation center, where I scoped the link to SJC airport - I may take the train from home to the airport when traveling in the future - at least on short trips with light luggage - thus sparing spouse the chore. Let’s hope no train accidents on flight mornings…
