Adobe’s Lightroom is an interesting photo post production product. I played with very early betas at work, and am now learning to use the just-released, and much-evolved product. Indeed, I’ve set up a Mac single-processor G5 just to deal with the plethora of pix we generate around here, and Lightroom is the front end on the system.
Lightroom features batch processing for everything from keywords to color correction, and every change is non-destructive. Lightroom is not a pixel editor, unlike Photoshop (though it integrates nicely with PS CS2 and soon, CS3). Most of the blog pix you see here are being processed in Lightroom. We used to use iPhoto: Lightroom is much deeper and more capable…

This is how ‘World HQ‘ looks to me (as opposed to view, below), configured for work at home days. The MacBook Pro, left is hooked up to the 20″ cinema display, giving lots of real estate for email, calendar, browser and productivity apps. The 12″ PowerBook on the right is available for chores like search, and was my work machine until near the end of last year, so has deep archives that are occasionally useful.
There’s a speaker phone, a home Polycom, out of view on the right, with a backup Panasonic on the left (2 simultaneous phone conferences? – it’s happened) and there are 2 iSite cams in the picture (on top of the big display and built in to the MacBook. So, we have all the tools… a glimpse at one worker’s environment…

Very busy week at work is coming to a close: thought I’d ‘come up for air’ for a little lunchtime blogging and other fun, before grabbing lunch and finishing up.
I snatched the Firewire iSite cam that sits on our 20″ monitor and put it in the Owe Robotic Arm that adorns the bookshelf, and snapped the overhead shot above of moi at World HQ (where we’ve worked every day this week), for no particular reason, other than a. general nerdiness, b. I like to take pictures, and c. I enjoy writing about stuff like this. Go figure…
Wordpress is back, working properly with posts containing images (as you can see – and still no clue why it failed previously). Some tech mysteries will remain unsolved, I guess. This PM after the work stuff is filed, looking forward to 2 projects: finishing up a CSS tutorial and working more in Adobe’s recently-released Lightroom…
