This is is cool: Sun will be helping develop a full Mac OS X-native version of OOo. There is already a version that runs on X11 on OS X, and it’s actually pretty useful, especially if you’re used to OpenOffice.org on Linux or BSD, and don’t mind the mental ‘contextual switching’ of interfaces as you work.
But, I’m guessing there are not a lot of folks running X11 on their Macs, outside of programmers who have the developer tools installed, and open-source afficianados like me. A version of OpenOfffice.org that ‘just runs,’ and inherits the Mac’s very nice graphics will be a very welcome addition to the platform. It may reduce the number of copies of Office 2008 for Mac I need to buy for gulker.com…

NeoOffice does a pretty good job of “just running”, although I understand it doesn’t use the same license as Open Office and doesn’t share code back to Open Office.
