On a cheerier note…

The pole beans have runners now, that have just found the bamboo quadripods that will support them. The beans like the heat of recent warm afternoons, and are starting to take off - they will literally begin to ‘grow like a bean’ shortly. We may be seeing blossoms by the time we’re back from France and baby green beans shortly thereafter.
There are few treats like beans fresh from the garden and quickly steamed, IMHO.
The first of our yellow wax beans are just poking up in their bed this morning - 2 small plants are the first to appear. In past years, they’ve been a real treat, mixed colorfully with the green as a side veggie or in salads. They go very well with grilled salmon… an easy summer meal…
