The Garden

Very busy day today: my last day at Adobe before a 10-day break in France. Given current processing speeds, I got up at 6:00 AM and stayed at my VPNed post, with only a few breaks for a Dr. appt. and food until 9:00 PM. I made most of my meetings (AM, anyway), got a bunch of assignments done, left things reasonably tidy and wrapped up (if you can ever really do that).
I did, late in the afternoon, take 15 minutes to sit in the Garden, which I am making a priority. The Garden is one of the few components of my crazed chemo and steroid and anti-convulsant-moderated life where I feel I have some modicum of control, order and peace. I did the same thing early this morning, spending 10 minutes with a cup of Peet’s coffee while I watered. In the PM I just sat and looked at how big the lemon cucumbers have grown this week.
By the time we return from France, the garden should be nicely grown in. Beans and lettuce should be ready… tomatoes will be another 30 days I think…

Dear Chris, How strange to discover that after deciding to catch up again, a busy year or more had passed and that you’ve had some medical problems. I’m not sure what but your treatment and reactions sound all to familiar. My good friend, Faith Teeple and I have both found ourselves with children fighting serious life threatening illnesses.
Our Karen, found her breast cancer ha metastasized to her bones and continues with various forms of radiation, chemo and other meds. She is still working as a special ed High School teacher in the Wachusetts Mountain area of Mass. We have also learned how important it is that you keep careful records and do your own research to back up your medical team. On July 9th Karen is getting a port again so that the taking of the blood and receiving the chemo will be easier. Dogs and garden must be an inherited source of our solice. Yesterday, Karen picked up a rescued Rottweiler she and her soon to be husband. Paul Quinlan adopted. One of these days I’ll figure out how to scan and send you some pictures.
Faith’s son Jason discovered he had water on the brain, while in graduate school a few years ago. Ever since that time, although “not cancerous” tumors have appeared on his spinal column and in his brain to the point where radiation and chemo have been the only means f keeping them at bay. All the Teeples have always been careful researchers and have accumulated a large body of research on brain tumors and their treatment. Jason is seeing doctors in Bethesda, New York and Philadelphia,. He recently was able to drive again and is now working in Princeton. His speciality is computer linquistics. His sister has her Masters in conflict mediation and she is in the process of working on her doctoral thesis after returning home to be with the family and help with Jason and their 94 year old grandfather, who came to live with them after his computer job was outsourced last year.
Sorry to ramble on so, but I do feel it would be helpful for you to compare notes with them.. I’ll tell Jason to check out your website.
Wendell and I send our good wishes to both you and Linda, I hope you appreciate how difficult all this is for her. and give her as much support as you can. If there is anything we can do here in Morristown, know that we are here for you. With much love to my cousin Chris, margret
