Happy 4th to all…

Flag on our porchLinda has a really nice, thoughtful piece on First Blush about the 4th of July, and what it has meant to our family. During John’s ‘little boy’ years in South Pasadena, July 4 was an exhausting, exhilarating celebration of family, neighborhoods and ’small-town’ suburban life.

Today we’ll be barbecuing (maple-mustard marinated chicken breasts from Schaub’s) with John and Julie after we see Ratatouille, the new Pixar flick about a rat who wants to be a chef.

My own chefly efforts included making ‘top secret’ cole slaw, and a salad of green beans and tomatoes, which recipe Linda found in a new ‘healthy’ cook book. The mint and a handful of the beans came from our garden.

Today, it’s hard not to think about what the past 6 years’ efforts by the current administration have done to our country: the front page of today’s New York Times pretty much says it all. It’s hard not to be disappointed with almost every aspect of our foreign and national policies (or lack thereof).

Not that I’m hearing anything much better from the Democrats - who continue to be the dog that isn’t barking, IMHO. It’s as if Karl Rove and the rest of the Bush administration have really drawn out the ugly side of America, and pols being pols, they are all - Republican and Democrat alike - pandering to it. Maybe Obama can get a Kennedy-like ‘can do’ spirit back into this country… the pendulum is overdue to swing the other way… (photo by Linda Gulker)…

Stuart- and all the best to you and your family…. I’m not doing great mobility-wise, but i have been able to peg the steroid level where edema starts coming back - which is good news. I can adjust dosage with knowledge rather than a random stab.

    Happy 4th….!

400% housing inflation isn’t bad if U own a house. 400% energy inflation is a fact of life in this world. As bad as inflation under Dubya is, Hillary isn’t going to be much better. She’ll print more money in addition to raising taxes for “the good of the people.”

Obama isn’t a factor. Hillary is going 2 win in 2008. Income tax will return to 2000 levels, which our bosses will pass down to us in the form of lower paychecks. The “universal retirement tax” and “universal healthcare tax” are a given.

Housing, energy, gold, and healthcare costs will continue to double every 3 years. The only thing that won’t go up in price will be what the CPI measures: record players.
