Heh… check it out:
A bare touch screen on a tablet for $300 was what everyone wanted. HP, OQO, Slimdevices, Palm, Blackberry, Nokia knew it but chose to ponder stupid keyboards, stupid graffiti pads, excessive buttons, and funky plastic pieces.
It’s a tradition in Silicon Valley to know exactly what you have to do, but not make it and instead focus on weird derivatives until Apple finally does what needs to be done. Then when Apple finally corners the market, say “Steve is a genius.â€

I guess 5 consecutive crashes in a row qualifies as a repeatable bug? Parrallels 3.0 crashed (and wiped out my Win XP installation) first time I ran it, and has now crashed 4 times in a row as I try to put a supported Linux distro on, instead. This bug is frustratingly repeatable – and renders Parallels completely useless… and unfortunately the FAQ support docs their site directs one to isn’t loading just at the moment. Sigh…

Last night we upgraded our Core Duo Mini’s copy of Parallels to 3.0. Just ast a dialog popped up announcing our WinXP drive image was being upgraded to 3.0, the MIni crashed with one of those ‘gray box’ screens ‘You must restart your computer…’
When the computer did come back, the WinXP drive image was gone, and an attempt to recreate it prompted me for the Microsoft activation key. Naturally, I can’t find the CD. Not happy.
However, the Ubuntu distro I ordered last week has arrived, so I’ll be attempting to get a Linux distro going first off while I’m digging for Windows (not that I’m wild about putting Windows back on the system). Wish me luck!
I’ve also installed Google browser sync all around, so I can sit down at any CPU and pretty much pick right up where I left off on another machine. Since my 64-bit AMD machine appears to be have a dead video card, having an open source distro on the Mini makes a lot of sense, especially since i could install, say, Fedora and SuSE, too for times when I want to investigate those versions. VM seems to be the way to go…

Update: WSJ says in its Evening Wrap email that the price cut on iPhone comes in response to a bigger-than-expected sales slide-off after the initial early adopter rush (and how happy are those guys going to be). Apple’s playing in mass retail markets now, and is going to be driven by thos (fairly brutal) economics, I guess.
Ruh, roh, we may have to look into this… sounds like Apple wants to sell a boatload of thes things. $399 is still a bit steep, but it’s not $599…

So, clearly we need a good calendar (witness strikeouts in posts below). Since learning web 2.0 is one of my ‘new life’ goals, I’ve decided to use Google Calendar (know a better one? Ping me). It will help if I check the calendar before getting going in the morning….
