Getting World HQ back into shape

Last night we upgraded our Core Duo Mini’s copy of Parallels to 3.0. Just ast a dialog popped up announcing our WinXP drive image was being upgraded to 3.0, the MIni crashed with one of those ‘gray box’ screens ‘You must restart your computer…’
When the computer did come back, the WinXP drive image was gone, and an attempt to recreate it prompted me for the Microsoft activation key. Naturally, I can’t find the CD. Not happy.
However, the Ubuntu distro I ordered last week has arrived, so I’ll be attempting to get a Linux distro going first off while I’m digging for Windows (not that I’m wild about putting Windows back on the system). Wish me luck!
I’ve also installed Google browser sync all around, so I can sit down at any CPU and pretty much pick right up where I left off on another machine. Since my 64-bit AMD machine appears to be have a dead video card, having an open source distro on the Mini makes a lot of sense, especially since i could install, say, Fedora and SuSE, too for times when I want to investigate those versions. VM seems to be the way to go…
