Dotcom garden's penultimate harvest

So here’s what Dotcom Garden had to offer yesterday afternoon: the beans and cucumbers are pretty much fini, as are the eggplant and most of the basil. A few clusters of still-ripening tomatoes remain, so we may get one last batch.

These tomatoes are so sweet, that it was hard to do a Greek salad last night: even with a sharp white balsamic vinegar and lemon dressing, the sweetness of the tomatoes was evident. It was sort of like California-style Pinot Noir, that never has the acid of a Burgundian Pinot.

We’re getting ready for Garden 2.0, BTW, and we saw lots of stuff offered by startups at the Going Green conference in Davis - mainly recycled materials for planters, bender board, gates and fences et al. that we’ll be sure to incorporate into the design. Designing Garden 2.0 should be fun…

    Thanks, Mary… the eggplant and about a half-pound of Shitake mushrooms went into a tomato reduction - simmered down over a mere hour, sad to say - into which a salmon fillet was plopped to braise. Linda seemed to enjoy the meal, sweet tomatoes notwithstanding….
