Walking Cassie brings an interesting photo op

The sun peeks through our small Redwood grove as I set off with Cassie for a walk this morning. It has been months since I’ve been able to take my poor Australian Shepherd for a walk, given mobility issues.
Yesterday I walked the 7 blocks from Menlo Medical Clinic after my lab tests to the Starbucks in downtown Menlo - not something I could have done easily 2 months ago. BTW, we greatly prefer Peet’s Coffee to Starbuck’s, but daughter-in-law Julie loves Starbuck’s iced tea, and it’s been my small pleasure to buy her a Starbuck’s card at the beginning of the month so she doesn’t have to fumble for change.
Anyway, I decided to resume our walks this morning: a short walk, to be sure, and Cassie wasn’t very good, pulling me hither and yon, but we made our way. This time of year, the sun is low in the sky, so I may snare some interesting ‘morning’ pix for the blog - this one was snapped with a 21mm f2.8 Elmarit-M on the Leica M8 and processed in Lightroom 1.2 (I have completely given up on iPhoto ‘08).
We wouldn’t be on this journey were it not for the strength training program created by my physical therapist at UCSF’s Osher Center: I’m beginning to be able to do lots of small things - get out of a chair, put on socks and shoes - that were previously very difficult thanks to improved strength and coordination. This after 2 months… I’m told it may take 10 months to get back to something like normal mobility, especially if I can ramp down the steroid dosage…

Now, how about a Cassie photo? Give her a pat for me.
Sure, Mary… coming up…
Fantastic. Credit to your therapist, but more credit to you. Can’t stop the Gulker.
