This photo of a model of downtown San Francisco with the proposed Skidmore Owings and Merrill and Rockefeller Group Development Corporation’s proposed Transbay Terminal building (the tallest building) shows the new scale that will likely begin to characterize San Francisco as housing and office space pressure continue to push the city upward. I happen to like this design best of the 3 Transbay Terminal Project proposals: I also like that it has hotel and condo space, not just offices – I could live there once it’s built.

…showed up in the mail yesterday. I suspect this is a gift from friend Michael Rosenberg, who is perhaps leary that I’ll jut be laying about in my new life (I only wish, Michael – Linda will never allow that particulare scenario).
I am trying to polish my journalistic skills as part of the new regime, and I will enjoy reading the very fine writing that can be found in the New Yorker. It’s been a while since I’ve read the New Yorker regularly, so it will be interesting to see the current crop of editors and writers. And, yes, of course, we’ll chuckle over the cartoons.
Seriously though, I’d like to begin writing about green tech and open source on gulker.com more frequently. Along those lines, I have some interviews tucked away that I will be writing up – and possibly turning into podcasts – in the next few days. Hopefully, we’ll have a more lively and interesting gulker.com going forward…

So, we have been determined to learn about podcasting, and the audio recording that goes along with the deal. We have just been too busy with the ‘new life’ (and dealing with spouse’s long lists of ‘to-dos’ now that she has a mate that she regards as otherwise not gainfully employed).
Anyway, yesterday we hooked up a USB microphone to our trusty laptop, equipped it with the Audacity open-source sound recording app (with LAME MP3 export libraries) and made a very simple podcast, basically just a recording of me blabbing about podcasting for a bit less than a minute. Next up, taking some DVR recordings and cutting tracks together…
