This month’s Wired has a long article about cellulosic ethanol and other alternate technologies, and their likely places in the pantheon of green tech we will need to rapidly embrace to slow the ravages of global warming.

Probably the most important phrase in the article goes something like “It’s the will, not the technology.” We can already begin to reduce greenhouse emissions by adopting green tech now albeit at a seemingly higher cost.

When you figure in the massive bills we will be paying for all of the accumulated environmental damage of the Industrial Revolution, it should be clear that you either pay now, or you pay later.

So we can have $3-a-gallon gas that pushes off the bill until later, or $5- or $6-dollar a gallon gas that pays the bill now with lower emissions. $6-a-gallon is probably just never going to cut it with the current generation of political ‘leadership’…
