Mars approacheth

Friend Bob McCrary, seeing my Moon pics below, emailed to remind me that Mars is approaching opposition - meaning Mars and the Sun are on opposite sides of the Earth - and as close as they will be until 2014.
The last time Mars was very close to Earth, in 2003, I snapped the pic seen here: maybe tomorrow I can try to get Mars and the Moon in the same shot: Bob reports they’re only about 10 degrees apart.
Looking at this picture, I can’t help but think how much my life has changed since then. I’d have had to get up extra early to snap the photo before going out on Linda and my ritual jog.
Tomorrow I’ll have a little more time, not that I want to: Linda will go on her solo jog without me. I can’t tell you how much I miss those jogs… we jogged together for 25 years…

Chris, if you like astronomical websites, check this one out: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html.
Fantastic pictures, a new one every day. I passed this to Linda via her blog a couple days ago but not sure if it got through. Her blog shows zero comments but I did send one. Anyway….sorry if this is duplicative in the Gulker household.
Thanks for the tip Lamar… very cool site! The commenting on blogspot is kind of hit or miss…. sometimes Lind publishes the comments and they don’t show up…
