Chris being guided on Bosu exercise by Heidi Engel at UCSF's MIlberry Center

Friend Mike Podell was gracious and kind enough to take me up to UCSF’s Milberry Center for my weekly workout with trainer Heidi Engel. Here Heidi’s guiding me on something called a Bosu, a partially inflated half-sphere that allows me to work to strengthen - and coordinate - my leg muscles. Heidi really put me through the wringer today - a good thing… Photo by Mike Podell…

[…] The late afternoon sun provided some interesting light and shadow as I made my way to the Menlo Park hardware store yesterday afternoon after a medical appointment. I’m starting to attempt short walks - 3 blocks in this case - thanks to the strength and mobility workouts… […]

[…] So we’re off to UCSF this morning, for rehab workouts, then back up again tomorrow for MRIs and a consult with the neuro-oncological team. There’s a dentist appt. in the middle of that somewhere, plus the usual Get Things Done stuff. Linda’s off to NYC, and there’s a couple of last touches we need on the patio project. So, we have a long ‘to-do’ list and a full inbox… […]

[…] So we’ve been off the air since Tuesdays. Gotta say, being ‘retired’ is exhausting, and I’ve been busy as heck for the last couple of days. Won’t bore you with the details, but a new commitment to walking for 40 minutes every day (on top of our A.M. exercise regimen), the usual household chores, shopping (now that I can drive again) et al. just leave precious little time. We’ve also been working on some computer stuff, which you’ll see chronicled above. Pic shows the scene on my afternoon walk yesterday…  […]

[…] We have had a pretty amazing week, if only because we found we had the stamina to do it all. Back-to-back birthday dinners, dinner with former startup colleague and friend Brad Giles, a day at UCSF working on strength, coordination and forging new neuronal connections (and, oh yeah, chemo), a solo trip to Los Angeles for the L.A. Herald Examiner re*nion, lunch with three college buddies at the Slanted Door in San Francisco and family tradition corned beef and cabbage dinner with Julie, John and Grace (also celebrating Julie’s 30th).
