What a day….

Started with a hard ‘Heidi’ workout, followed by a scramble to be at UCSF Radiology Imaging Center for a 9:00 AM MRI, followed by a MRI review (the news continues to be good on the tumor and Avastin seems to be the reason) with my neuro-oncology team.

Then lunch with Kelly, Karen and Jim, our cousins from up north. Kelly, sadly, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which is not something you’d wish for a vibrant mother with young children. How is it that a woman in her 40s is coming down with a disease that is rare in people under 70?

We all met up at (where else) Falafil King near UCSF’s Mount Zion Cancer Center where Kelly was getting a second opinion, and shared our stories. This cancer stuff is just a bear: there’s no easy way to deal with it, and no way to know how hard it is until you get there, especially when children are involved. So we talked about the hard parts… there really aren’t any easy parts…

Chris, our prayers will continue for your continued complete recovery. You have shown a lot of courage here. And new prayers for your cousin, Kelly.
