VMware and Parallels running Windows XP and Ubuntu

Continuing our virtualization adventures, we’re sitting here blogging in Firefox running on Ubuntu Linux, which, in turn, is running in Parallels 3.0 virtualization software (yes, we finally got it running). At the same time, VMWare Fusion is running Windows XP on the same Mac Mini.

On the one hand, I can see what my blog looks like in different browsers on different OSes. On the other hand, it’s hard to imagine why I’d otherwise need to run 3 OSes on the same machine at the same time (though I can imagine why others might need to do it).

However, It is truly amazing that this tiny computer (with a 1.6 GHz dual core Intel CPU) has the horsepower to do all this work at the same time. Software emulators were once synonymous with ‘glacially slow:’ Explorer on Windows and Firefox on Linux are both pretty zippy on this setup. More virtualization TK…

Crikey. How much RAM have you got in the mini?

LOL, been doing this for a while now. While it isn’t really necessary, it is SOOOO cool to run OSX, Ubuntu and Windows all at the same time!

Even run things like Maya and Caligari in Fusion, at the same time as I run programs like Second life which need more graphic card horsepower than the emulator can furnish in the main mac side, and with no performance issues at all!!
