Baylands

Palo Alto’s Baylands, in particular Byxbee Park, has become a weekend destination for Linda and I again. Linda can jog a loop trail while I walk from the parking lot to the dam that separates the marsh from the Bay.
Each of our efforts take about an hour, and we link back up in the parking […]

Formatting: I think I liked the old gulker.com fomat wher the heading was a date, and I could tuck a bunch of smaller or larger posts underneath it. Writing a headline for each post seems to hog more space somehow - anyway, here’s a trial run…

Our new patio has just been glorious the past couple […]

Boulanger, again

We’re back at Boulanger, treating myself to a vegetarian sandwich and a non-fat latte. It’s a reward for a hard workout at the Y, despite a wobbly left side (I fell getting out of bed this AM - not the best way to start the day). We’re all but surrounded by iPhones (though I may […]

A pretty good day

We finally got through all but one of a small mountain of insurance forms with attendant receipts, hospital invoices et al., replete with frequent calls to 800 numbers for help with confusing rules and forms. We also brought in the recycling bins and garbage can (we actually took them out yesterday, which is a real […]

Blogging: from bakery to bedroom

This post, unlike yesterday’s iPhone-mediated offering, is coming from a laptop, wirelessly connected from my bedroom where I’m preparing to take a nap. My recent strength gains are such that I can sit up in bed again, to read or noodle with a portable computer…

Blogging from the iPhone

We’re sitting in the Boulanger Bakery in downtown Menlo Park, blogging on our iPhone, courtesy of their free WiFi. The couple across from me are busy, too: she on her MacBook Air, he on his iPhone. Blogging is possible from Safari on iPhone, as is email, if not particularly easy…
[Addendum from home Mac: I couldn’t […]

WordPress’ forbidden word

For some strange reason, if a post contains the word *nion (as in labor *nion, state of the *nion, class re*nion), WordPress reports a 403 error. I’ve Googled this, searched the WordPress docs with nary a clue. Anyone?

Back at it

We have had a pretty amazing week, if only because we found we had the stamina to do it all. Back-to-back birthday dinners, dinner with former startup colleague and friend Brad Giles, a day at UCSF working on strength, coordination and forging new neuronal connections (and, oh yeah, chemo), a solo trip to Los Angeles […]

San Francisco: capping a big week

Almost capping off a really big week, friend and Occidental College classmate Stuart Rosenberg (center) drove me up to the Slanted Door restaurant in the Ferry Building yesterday, where we met fellow classmates Jon Merksamer (left) and Jimmy Graham.
As can be seen, it was a beautiful day, and the much-vaunted restaurant did not disappoint (Vietnamese […]

The City of Angels

We’re back from L.A., where we had an awful lot of fun. We could have blogged from there via the iPhone had I managed to remember the correct string to get to WordPress’ post function. The Herald Examiner gathering was great, and I caught up with dozens of old colleagues. The icing on the cake […]
