The Smart way to Caltrain

Smart ForTwo at Menlo Park CalTrain station

Spotted this Smart ForTwo at the Menlo Park Caltrain station when I returned from physical therapy this afternoon. Gotta say that, other than a bicycle, this is probably the best way to get to CalTrain. My Escape Hybrid is good, too…

    The amazing thing is all the cars of the future are going back to ordinary gasoline after 30 years of LPG, fuel cell, & battery hype.

    In Paris, I’ve seen Smart (actually ’smart’) cars parked perpendicularly to the curb - the car is about as long as many cars are wide…

    There is a smart ‘hybrid’ available in Germany… it has an electric motor, but it’s only used to instantly start the 1-litre gas engine which shuts down at stop lights and other idle situations.

    It’s often the case that old technologies improve even as new ones are introduced. As gas prices go up, other alternatives should become more viable and competitive.
