Mystery continues

Honest, I cannot find the mystery computer: I can see it on the LAN (ping times are sub-millisecond), but I cannot find the physical machine after much digging around the premises. I checked both our Intel Macs (a Mini and the Mac Pro) to make sure they weren’t running an instance of Linux or Windows under VM (VMWare in our case), I checked for dual network interfaces (Mac Pro has 2, but only one is connected/configured) but nope, no dice. Where is this thing!!!?

can’t you systematically unplug lines into your router until it’s unreachable, and go from there.

    Could it be your iPhone?

One of the machines plugged in to the LAN with wireless on? Are the machines DHCP? If so maybe reset the router. Sorry for the basics but this is the kind of stuff that would drive me nuts…

What about unplugging each of the known devices one after the other?

Since I do not know anything about your infrastructure … that’s what I would do ;-) .
