A missive to my Mormon brethren

From this morning’s gospel reading (Mathew 5, v. 1-12 aka The Beatitudes):
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Your church has just spent $35 million to insult, persecute and falsely say evil against gay and lesbian people in the state of California. It’s as if you are trying to make saints of these, our brothers and sisters, by persecuting them. I’m trying hard to work through the anger I feel for you… as a Christian must…

Still not as much as the $37.6 million spent opposing proposition 8.
Not true… Prop 8 proponents spent more in total. It wasn’t just the amount - it was the patently false tactics - the last minute (completely false) ‘Obama supports 8′ robo calls, and the claim that 8 was about teaching gay marriage in schools.
Prop 8 is a 21st Century Jim Crow law aimed at creating a maintaining under class status for a minority group.
I can only fear what evil the Mormons, emboldened by this success, will try to buy next.
Chris,
It was not just Mormons: Proposition 8 enjoyed broad support among Catholics and African American congregants as well. I would hazard thatProposition 8 would not have passed without the support of the black churches.
