Walking on uneven ground is supposed to be very good for the brain, according to UCSF emeritus neurologist Michael Merzenich. Yesterday, Linda and I walked (me) and jogged (Linda) through the Arastradero Preserve, a Palo Alto public-access open space in nearby Portola Valley.
Arastradero’s trails are easy by most hikers’ standards, but for hemiplegic me, the hills and uneven trail surfaces present a challenge. Yesterday, I surprised myself (and Linda) by walking more than twice as far in the allotted hour than I have been able to do since I began rebuilding my body after the end of steroid therapy. I’m feeling good lately, and walking better than I’ve been able for nearly 2 years… 4:44:36 PM
