The day dawned bright and sunny, and Linda and I decided to try one of our favorite outings, a tour of the jogging path on Alpine Road, followed by breakfast at Mike’s Cafe in Ladera Center (where the nursery’s flowers were in full glory).
Where once we jogged, today we each made our gimpy way, me limping and Linda scooting along on her KneeWalker. On the path we met a guy suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and blindness in one eye, who was nevertheless making his way slowly up the path.
At breakfast we bumped into friend, former neighbor Mary Lemon, whose townhouse was one of three involved in a major Menlo fire a few weeks ago. Mary’s been living at the new Rosewood Hotel on Sand Hill, but her life will continue in flux for months to come. Suddenly, our problems seemed much smaller…
