Photojournalism is dead, or, at least, the likelihood of making a living as a photojournalist is DOA, according to the New York Times. Making a living taking documentary photographs has been hard for decades, but it’s over, now, at least in terms of of working for newspapers, magazines and photo agencies, whether freelance or staff.
My friends and colleagues who are or have been in the field, are now either unemployed, teaching or doing things like leading adventure photo tours for aspiring amateurs. The Great Recession was the last nail… and a viable web model has yet to emerge…
