No sooner did we post a Bruce Springsteen shot we took some 30 years ago, but a request came in to see if we had any more young Bruce shots for a book project. It reaffirmed my faith that all the work we’re doing out in the garage may pay off some day.
A blog post is like extended tagging – long enough to include a lot of words, short enough to be indexed meaningfully by search engines like Google and Bing (where, it seems, more words tend to dilute the relevance to any given topic). Probably, if I could get my SEO expert wife to tag my stuff, I’d do even better. Her relentless tagging of InMenlo posts has resulted in surprisingly high placement for a brand new, largely unlinked blog, on Google, anyway.
But, spouse has better things to do than help out on her husband’s broken-down old-school blog, so we languish in brackish blog backwaters – not that you, dear reader are not regarded among the very hip avant garde who troll the long tail for the lone genius blogger who, surely, must be out there somewhere.
Which raises the issue – if brilliant tagging can raise any old ‘content’ to a large audience, why bother creating brilliant content? Rather than learn mastery of the essay or article, master instead SEO tagging – a much more compact form…
