We toured Sun Records today, a nice bookend to our Stax tour yesterday, and stood in the still-active studio where Elvis recorded. First time around, Elvis paid the studio $4 to record him, and the studio would have given him his recording on an acetate disc, cut on a machine like the one above. Stax’ Soulville is a nicer museum but it’s ‘no photos’ and ‘no touch’, where Sun allows photos and you can touch, and pose with, Elvis’ microphone… more TK

I’m seeing John Hiatt tonight at the Luther Burbank. His song, Memphis in the Meantime is in my DNA. Glad you got to Memphis before the product management team – a feather in your cap I have to say.
